The Independent launched Travel Smart, an all-new series of videos from the Travel Team to provide viewers with all the information and inspiration they need to plan their next trip.
Hosted by travel correspondent Simon Calder, editor Helen Coffey and associate editor Lucy Thackray, the magazine-style show will examine the top destinations to visit, the most sustainable ways to explore the world and the best tips for saving money. best deals when booking vacations.
In the first episode, Simon delves into the complicated rules of carry-on baggage and how to get around them, tackles the issues of Independent readers about travel insurance and tour operator supplements, and why now is the time to book a travel package. Helen explains why she’s been committed to flight-free travel for the past three years and recommends Antwerp as a cultural destination for a city break easily accessible by train, while Lucy explains why Puglia is a fabulous, trendy Italian region for tasty food and a multitude of beaches for relaxed breaks.
Future episodes will include special destinations, such as Texas and Barbados, giving an in-depth look at what travelers can do while there; compare the advantages of a road trip versus a train adventure in the United States; and answer topical questions from readers, such as how to get the best car rental deal after landing.
