Sony has lost almost 2 million PlayStation Plus subscribers since June 2022

Earlier this year, Sony launched new tiered plans for its PlayStation Plus subscription service and it looks like they aren’t going to be as popular as the Japanese company expected. In fact, according to Sony’s latest tax earnings report, The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers has dropped by almost 2 million!

Specifically, the number of subscribers increased from 47.3 million in June 2022 to 45.4 million at the end of September 2022. The company’s latest financial report, which can be viewed here, also revealed that the total time spent on playing games on PlayStation also fell about 10 percent. hundred from year to year.

Sony attributed the drop in subscription numbers as well as playtimes to the lack of availability of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) in the market. The report showed that a majority of subscribers use a PS5 and as a result, the company plans to ramp up production of the console.

By doing so, Sony hopes to be able to recover some of the lost PlayStation Plus subscribers. Of course, the PS5 is super popular and still in demand, so that’s a no-brainer. In the same report, the Japanese company said that it has now sold 25 million PS5 units.
