India’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2022 has put most players in the spotlight. Be it skipper Rohit Sharma or veterans like Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin, their roles and places in the team have been questioned by many former cricketers and pundits. Some have even called for a change of captaincy in the T20 format. However, India’s former all-rounder Irfan Pathan doesn’t think changing captains is the need of the hour at the moment. Rather, he thinks what needs to change is the approach to the game.

A number of former cricketers and fans have come up with the name of Hardik Pandya as India’s next T20 captain, especially with the T20 World Cup 2024 in mind. Irfan, however, is not supportive. to such significant changes given that Rohit only took over a year early, after Virat Kohli left as the team’s captain after the 2021 T20 World Cup.

In a tweet, Irfan explained what changes should be made to the Indian cricket team in the future.

He tweeted: “Indian cricket going forward 1) Openers play free, at least one of them. 2) Wrist spinner (wicket taker) is a must. 3) Rip fast bowler. 4) S “Please don’t think changing captains will give us a different result. It’s the approach that needs to change.”

Earlier, Irfan also pointed out the ‘risk’ of making Hardik Pandya the captain. The versatile has not had an injury-free history. Irfan therefore fears what happens to the team and foresees if Hardik gets injured right before a big tournament.

“So I’m not saying that if you change the captain, you change the result, if you go like that, you’re not going to change the result. And with Hardik Pandya, you have to understand, we all need to understand, that he is a fast bowler. He also has injury problems. What if it’s your captain who gets injured right before the World Cup? And if you don’t have another leader ready, you will have be in trouble,” Pathan said on Star Sports.

“So what I personally think is that Hardik Pandya is a leader, who did very well in Gujarat Titians, won the IPL, won the championship trophy. You have to find not one, but two leaders in the future to build their brand. You know, just like we talk about fly-half – we need a group of fly-half, we also need a group of leaders,” he added. .
