Thoughts on team selections…

Interesting from India, for dropping their only southpaw in the lineup. Deepak Hooda as the sixth bowling option could also be tricky, but he’ll adapt well to a left-hand dominated top order.

– Ngidi’s return was obvious in a place where rebound is the motto.

THROW: India go for the bat; Deepak Hooda replaces Axar Patel. South Africa brings back Lungi Ngidi in place of Tabraiz Shamsi.

Prelude – Another Sunday blockbuster to come?

It’s hard to believe that the India-Pakistan clash captivated us just a week ago. This game had it all – anticipation, drama, anticipation, late twists and Virat Kohli playing the protagonist. Early suggestions were that this tournament couldn’t top that heart-pounding frenzy in the cauldron that was the MCG with 90,000 fans bouncing around – most in joy, some in sheer desperation. But, hold back my coffee, replies the World Cup. It was a sensational tournament where Zimbabwe stunned Pakistan, Ireland beat England in the rain and Bangladesh clipped Zimbabwe’s wings today. If the rain hadn’t ruined a few games, maybe these would have turned into thrillers too, who knows?

So now we come to this Sunday, where India takes on South Africa. Why will it be a blockbuster, you ask? Well, India edged out Pakistan and then galloped past the Netherlands to signal their intention to enter the tournament. South Africa, meanwhile, had an unfortunate non-result against Zimbabwe just as they were on the cusp of victory in a game in the rain, but they also stamped their authority in victory 104 points against Bangladesh.

These are two teams which entered the tournament as favorites and which, at the end of the day on Sunday, would have reinforced their reputation. Our man Kaushik writes that there is a different set of optics awaiting in this fixture, in its match preview.
