Newcastle Knights have confirmed the signing of Jackson Hastings from the Wests Tigers on a three-year deal.

Hastings, 26, played 63 NRL games after making his debut for the Sydney Roosters in 2014.

He also made 75 Super League appearances with Salford and Wigan and earned four Test caps for Great Britain in 2019.

The playmaker returned Down Under ahead of the 2022 season with the Wests Tigers and had one year left on his contract. He made 16 appearances in his comeback season, finishing bottom of the NRL ladder.

Newcastle Knights director of football Peter Parr said: “We’re glad we secured Jackson.

“He completes our roster and adds depth to our halves, with the added bonus of being a competent goal-kicker.

“Jackson is at a point in his career where he is reaching his peak. And we believe his best years are ahead of him.

The deal saw striker David Klemmer go the other way on a three-year contract, with the option of a fourth.

Klemmer, 28, joined the Knights in 2019. He went on to make 81 appearances for the team, including finals in 2020 and 2021.

The representative of Australia and New South Wales played 194 games in the NRL in ten seasons with the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Newcastle Knights.

He won 19 caps for the Kangaroos.

“I can’t wait to get into pre-season training. I’m really excited about what’s ahead of us,” Klemmer said.

“I know Tim (Sheens) well through our time with the Kangaroos. There’s a lot to like about the direction the club is going.

“In many ways it’s a new start for the club. I’m delighted to be a part of it.

“I want to make a difference here and that includes helping some of the young players who haven’t played much in their first year yet.”
