However, he has said the Qatar World Cup will be his last international tournament, as will 35-year-old Argentina sensation Lionel Messi.

The Real Madrid star will turn 38 before the next major European Cup tournament in 2024. The 2026 World Cup is also far-fetched for the Croatian National. However, he recently led Croatia to the last four of the UEFA Nations League to be held next June. Whether he will retire before the final Nations League stage or not is still unclear.
