Blues look to turn curve in Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 16th (UNI) Bengaluru head coach Simon Grayson has claimed the belief and positivity within his team is intact, as they look to put a slow start behind them with a clash against Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena here on Thursday.

The Blues have won just one of their five encounters so far, losing 1-0 to Hyderabad, Odisha and East Bengal FC in consecutive fixtures.

“When you’ve only won one in five games and drawn the other, if you ask any of the players they’ll all tell you they’re not playing to the best of their abilities. It’s not that they’re not confident. I believe in my players and they believe in themselves. Together, with hard work, we know we can turn the tide,” said Grayson, s addressing the media on the eve of the match.

Bengaluru has only scored twice in the League so far; goals from Alan Costa and Roy Krishna in their first two meetings of the campaign. The Islanders, meanwhile, have scored 16 times in just six games; the most of any team in the division.

“Mumbai are a team with a good mix of foreign and Indian players, and we respect them as a unit. We are playing against a great team who had a fantastic result this weekend. But as far as we can tell, we have to focus on ourselves. We have to do what we can to go from near victory to victory,” added Grayson.

Victory for Les Bleus will take them to seven points, two behind Odisha FC, who sit last in the playoffs. Des Buckingham City, with 12 points, are four behind league leaders Hyderabad FC.

The two teams last met in the 2022 Durand Cup Final in Kolkata where Bengaluru FC ran away 2-1 with goals from Costa and Sivasakthi Narayanan.

“As I said before, we’re going to take bits and pieces from past fixtures, even the Durand Cup one, but it’s nothing major. What I will say is we beat them, and that On the contrary, I’m sure the Mumbai team will say we owe them one for beating them in the final. It works both ways,” said the Englishman.

The kick off between Mumbai City FC and Bengaluru FC is scheduled for 7.30pm and will be broadcast live on STAR Sports Network, Disney+Hotstar and JioTV.
